The Rackham C of E Primary School

Background Slideshow

Our Ethos and Values:

Our Teaching and Learning Philosophy:

Everyone at Rackham shares a commitment to effective teaching and learning based on a well-planned and structured curriculum. There is a strong belief that children should become interdependent learners within well-organised primary classrooms, and that learning should be purposeful and matched to developing individual pupil abilities.

We want children to be able to think critically and creatively, know how to tackle problems and challenges, and work collaboratively within a team. They should be able to evaluate their own and others’ work with sensitivity, developing an awareness of strengths and weaknesses. We are proud that our children are highly motivated and eager to learn, as well as being sensitive to the needs of others.

We believe that the partnership between teachers and parents is critical to successful outcomes for our children. We appreciate and respect differences of ability and culture and we are committed to providing the appropriate support for integrating children with special needs.

Teachers work as part of a team and see their class as part of the whole school community, sharing their own particular interests and often giving freely of their time. Their work is underpinned by a whole school commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning, and to raising levels of achievement.

Our Vision and Values:

Our overarching vision is for Rackham School to be a place of nurturing, dynamic learning where high academic achievement and emotional wellbeing are equally valued and celebrated. Through positive partnerships between family, community and school, we will develop confident, respectful children who are motivated to take the next steps in their educational journey and life’s adventures, making positive contributions to the world.

As a school at the heart of the village community, we actively seek to promote and nurture moral, spiritual and Christian values within a happy environment where everyone feels valued and secure. We achieve this by providing a safe and secure learning environment where children are known as individuals.

Our rich, engaging curriculum, based on high quality texts and inspiring learning experiences, give planned opportunities for children to participate in academic, sporting, arts, music, environmental and pastoral activities which are designed to develop the whole child. Learning is exciting and challenging, and our pupils pursue excellence through curiosity and questioning.

Every school should be a special place, a safe place, a place of learning, and a place of nurture and of exploration. At Rackham we communicate at all levels by working hard to ensure that every member of our school community has a voice. We believe that children are born with a natural ability to learn from their surroundings and experiences, and this underpins our approach. We look outwards and learn from others to ensure we are providing an educational experience of excellence.

We are committed to continually mproving the quality of the educational provision for all our children which will enable them to reach their full potential and attain the levels of knowledge, understanding and skills that society demands for their future lives. High quality education at Rackham (CE) Primary School will be achieved by:

  • positive, caring and clearly focused leadership from the senior leadership team
  • the whole staff team working together to do its best for our children’s confidence
  • the whole staff team having high expectations of our children’s social, behavioural and academic performance
  • well planned, exciting and challenging teaching that develops lively, enquiring and open minds in our children
  • creating stimulating and attractive learning environments in which our children can take a pride
  • fostering a calm, secure and purposeful working atmosphere that nurtures a positive esteem and self-image in all our children
  • promoting respect for other people and their property
  • working in partnership with parents, governors and the local community to enrich opportunities for our children

We will continually strive to achieve the school’s aims through the formal curriculum and through all the other experiences offered to our children. High quality education will raise the children’s standards of attainment, enabling them to:

  • develop their use of English and Maths which provide the foundation for all their other learning
  • learn social skills that encourage agreeable interactions between their peers as well as adults
  • treat everyone in an equal manner, irrespective of gender, race, class or disability
  • develop personal and moral values that are respectful of others, leading to their appreciation and toleration of other religions and other ways of life
  • learn in a safe and secure environment, in keeping with Health and Safety Regulations that are in the interests of all whom work in the school.
